Fifty-year-old child

My drinking started in my preteens and lasted until I was forty-nine. At first, it was really good. It made me feel like a big shot. Eventually, however, I began drinking so much that I couldn't hide it anymore. Things began to go wrong. After drunk-driving arrests, accidents, near-misses with guns, broken furniture, lost friends, relationships, and jobs, I still couldn't understand that there was something wrong with me. Each time something went wrong, I blamed it on someone else or moved and kept on drinking. This lasted twenty-five years.
