Reflections on a sacred safety zone

One of the best mottos I've learned in Alcoholics Anonymous is "live in the moment." "One day at a time" strikes some disconsolate rummies as being excessively optimistic. When life looks very grim, it is hard to imagine getting through one hour, let alone twenty-four of them. There's some good, simple common sense in believing you only have to face what's eating you one moment at a time.
