From its inception, Alcoholics Anonymous has cooperated with nonalcoholic professional allies. One of the first efforts of working together for the benefit of the suffering alcoholic began with the medical community. Recovering AA members are familiar with "The Doctor's Opinion" in the Big Book, written by Dr. William Silkworth when the Fellowship was in its infancy.
