Half-measures Highway

Bulls--t! I thought. Joe, my new AA sponsor, had just said, "Five years is early sobriety." My first sponsor, busy with newer people, had turned me over to Joe. Although I resented my former sponsor for trading me like an aging minor league pitcher, I liked Joe. The remark also hurt because I approached my fifth anniversary of sobriety with much pride and joy.
