Payback Time

Revenge gives way to recovery

In early sobriety, ihad troubles with my family, creditors, friends, and even God. But I always found a way to work through them using the tools of AA. Then, when I had been sober for nearly seven years, I suddenly encountered trouble at my place of employment. The time for my annual review came around, and I was looking forward to an increase in pay and a healthy pat on the back. Instead, the review was so bad that I wound up on probation for ninety days and was warned that if my performance did not improve during that time, I would be terminated. I had always gotten great reviews and was not ready for this. I was devastated because my job had been the only solid ground I stood on throughout my sobriety.
