I was working with afellow just out of a treatment center. Pat didn't want to do the reading or writing I'd suggested. Pat said he was doing just fine, even though an alcohol-related problem swelled his leg to twice its normal size. I told him that sobriety was something we work for--not a quick fix. He disappeared.
