ON HIS TENTH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY a sober member of AA was asked what he had learned from his years of marriage. He replied, "Marriage is the best teacher of all. It teaches you perpetual loyalty, forbearance, meekness, self-restraint, and forgiveness--and a great many other qualities I wouldn't have needed if I'd stayed single."
