Hooked ON RECOVERY

I look at the dashboard clock as the eastern sky ahead begins to lighten. It's almost 6:00 a.m. and in the hazy periphery of my headlights, the overnight dew on the short grass alongside the road looks like snow, not long now coming. I'm heading along Spook Cave Highway, destined for Bloody Run, my favorite fishing spot. It occurs to me how many times I've driven this road drunk and swerved over the center line. Thank God those days are over.
