Paying the Price

The cost of a casual membership in the program

I often say at meetings that I'm sitting on two chips. One's a ten-year and one's a thirty-day chip. About two years ago, I relapsed within twenty days after picking up my ten-year chip. I now know that I had been planning that drink for many weeks before it actually came. I keep the ten-year chip close to me to remind me of the possibility of the program, but the thirty-day chip reminds me of the reality that all I have is a daily reprieve, contingent upon my spiritual condition.
