I was miserable and lonely. I lied to counselors, family, and co-workers. Alcohol made me think I could fit in with the crowd, and helped me forget my responsibilities. During my last year of drinking, I began to feel hopeless, calling crisis hotlines over and over, but never doing what was suggested.
