Perfecting progress

A lasting example of the value of action in AA was set for me, early in my recovery, by my sponsor, Bill M., who sobered up shortly after the end of World War II. Bill's favorite saying was, "Right action promotes right thinking quicker than right thinking promotes right action." I slowly learned that I can think about something all day long, but if I don't take action, nothing gets done. This isn't exactly profound for most people, but for me, it was a stunning revelation as I came out of the fog of alcoholism.
