A newcomer borrows her sponsor's Higher Power

Before I came into Alcoholics Anonymous, I had closed the door on any belief I had ever had in a God. I blamed him for whatever had happened to me. When I was 11 years old, one morning before I left for school I asked my sweet mother for a quarter. She told me "not today," so I took it from her purse. That afternoon, a priest came to school and told me my mother had died. I knew it was my punishment for taking the quarter that morning! I threw the quarter down a street drain and said, "There, God--I gave it back! I won't spend it. Now bring my mother back!" No answer.
