When My Sponsor Drank

Those we place on pedestals sometimes fall

Like many lessons in sobriety, placing people in AA on pedestals is something that I did not understand the full implications of initially. I had been putting recovering alcoholics on pedestals since before I even got to AA. My dad, for example, had been sober twelve years before I made it to the rooms, and based on his horrendous battle with booze before AA, I was sure he was a walking miracle.
