The Dash

My partner Al and I sat peacefully on a bench in a small park outside the medical building, awaiting a scheduled appointment with my doctor. I had recently been through major surgery and we were there to thank God and that doctor for pulling us through and to "complete" the file. Neither one of us is religious per se, yet we both had connected with a higher power in Alcoholics Anonymous. Combined we had more than thirty-seven years of sobriety and we both had much to be grateful for.
