Happy to be alive

An alcoholic finds hope after a lifetime of struggles

I DID not want to quit drinking; I went to AA with a shelter housemate, who didn't like to go alone. I liked to go because it got me out of Sunday night's chores. Hindsight now tells me that this was my Higher Power guiding me in the direction of healing, love and belonging. But I was a slow learner, or maybe it was just that I was stubborn--it was to take me five years to have my spiritual awakening. When I did, I couldn't believe the freedom and hope I was to feel.
