Alcoholism At Large

SURVEY: Public believes recovery is possible

According to a recent national survey, most U.S. adults believe that recovery from alcoholism and addiction is possible. A telephone survey of more than 1,000 Americans ages 18 and older found that more than two-thirds of respondents said they believe that treatment for alcoholism and addiction can work and that people in recovery can contribute to society. More than 60 percent said they "would be comfortable" working with or being friends with someone in recovery, and less than 20 percent said they would "think less of a friend or relative" if they discovered he or she was in recovery.
