Study: Sober alcoholics often opt for immediate rewards

According to behavioral neuroscientist Charlotte Boettiger, alcoholics may have difficulty comprehending long-term consequences, even when they are no longer drinking. In a 2008 study, she asked sober alcoholics and people with no history of alcohol abuse to choose between immediate rewards that would come later on, for instance, deciding between taking $75 right away or $100 in two weeks.
