Dear Grapevine

Always welcome?

I would like to remind AA members about our responsibility. I have been at closed meetings where those coming to the door are sent away because they are not women. Some of the women are rather harsh about it. I imagine that this might also happen at other closed meetings. I suggested that we print a list of alternative open meetings, or that volunteers leave the meeting to talk to these men. I think just sending people away is in direct conflict with out Responsibility Declaration. The secretary was not in favor, and since it wasn't a meeting I attend regularly, I didn't make a big deal about it. I often hear people share that meetings are safe places where they are always welcome. In the process of meeting our needs with closed meetings, let's not forget our primary purpose.
