During a difficult hospital stay, an old-timer's alcoholism comes calling

In July 2008, I went into the hospital for hip replacement surgery. At the time, I had been sober over 12 years, so I knew to do all the things I was supposed to do, such as share my addiction history with my surgeon and my fears and anxieties with my home group. I talked at length with other people who had gone through similar procedures.
