Dear Grapevine

In response to "Basket Case" (July 2010), I applaud the largess of those who are able and willing to place large contributions in the basket. When I first attended AA many years ago, I aped the others there, most of whom placed change in the "hat" (and it often was an actual hat). Years later, when I had secured a good job, I occasionally gave a fiver out of gratitude. Today, I am among the ranks of the many unemployed, and often simply do not have a buck or two to spare. I recently visited a food bank for the first time in my life. But I remain sober and grateful.
