A vision of himself falling into the chasm of alcoholism was his spiritual awakening

Answering the question, "What was my drinking like?" requires an examination of my last drink. One late winter in 1994, across the street from my brother's garden apartment, my drinking began in a bar with English ale and whisky neat. I felt certain that a couple of drinks would ease my mind. Yet, the truth was veiled in a lifetime of denial. I drank to blot out the present-moment.
