The Big, Beautiful Birthday Present

After a rough 25th year, pain gave way to gratitude

I recently turned 51, and, by the grace of God, I have lived the last 26 of those years as a sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Like almost everyone else, I struggled in the beginning with the transition from alcoholic thinking into the AA way of life. Many times in that first year, I was told to stay the course, that the first year in sobriety is often the hardest.
