A hurtful email from a sponsee turns out to be a gift

I was sort of new to the area and had established myself as a regular at a few meetings, but I really didn’t “hang out” with anyone in the program because I had a pretty full social life already, between the constant companionship of my husband and the busy lives of my children, grandchildren, sisters and friends outside AA. So it kind of surprised me when a newcomer asked me to be her sponsor. I had always thought sponsors were supposed to be part of the “in” crowd, visible members of AA, people who are known to be good sponsors—not little old stand-offish me.
