It seemed like a good idea at the time. Move to Olympia and live with Nancy. After all, we had been "distance dating" for five years—72 miles door-to-door. It wasn't as if we didn't know each other. She was my "puppy love" girlfriend when I was 11 years old for a summer in the small fishing town in which we grew up in Alaska. She was a year younger than me but we became good friends throughout high school. She got married right out of high school and I went off to college.
