Learning to Walk

In my active alcoholism I crawled through life, looking up at the world from the point of view of an infant. That is exactly how I felt—abandoned and alone. I was afraid, angry, and shy, and never wanted to take responsibility for myself. Like a child, I acted out in destructive ways. The problem was, I wasn’t a child anymore. So I continued to crawl, looking for love and nurturing—and help to develop into an adult at last.
