Barbecue But No Burgundy

Since no acquaintances had invited me to share their Thanksgiving dinner, I bought myself a barbecued chicken on Wednesday afternoon. “Tomorrow I may be a bit lonely, but I certainly won’t be hungry,” I thought. This was my first experience of a Thanksgiving Day without any close relatives or intimate friends to dine with. Sobriety, too, was a new condition for me.
