Dear Grapevine

Happy hikers
Last September, we four sober members of AA—accompanied by two Al-Anons and three normies—set out on a four-day adventure into the Grand Canyon. Day one, we hiked four and a half miles. Spirits were high and we were excited to be on our long-planned trip. Then day two, we hiked to Phantom Ranch in the bottom of the canyon. When we arrived at our campsite, it was 102 degrees in the shade. We posted a notice that there would be an open AA meeting at our campsite on Friday morning. We opened our meeting with “How It Works” followed by a reading from As Bill Sees It. Gratitude was the overriding theme of the sharing, and tears of joy and hope were shed. Attached is a picture of our campsite (left).
