My Safari Guide
In July 1995, after my daughter almost died in my house from acute alcohol toxicity, my wife suggested I might want to accompany her to an Al-Anon meeting. Little did I know what she really meant was that there was an AA meeting in the same building. As we walked up to the front door of the hospital where the meeting was, a man in his 60s addressed my wife and told her the Al-Anon meeting was upstairs. Then he turned to me and pointed down the stairs to AA. I had a working relationship with that hospital, so I was embarrassed to be there; to be confronted out front made matters worse. I know today that my Higher Power pushed me down those stairs. I did not fight back. In October 1978, it had been suggested I go to AA. I considered the thought for a nanosecond and dismissed the idea as ridiculous.
