School Spirit

Her search for faith took a happy turn on the San Diego freeway

When I came to AA I was an agnostic, I didn’t have a God, and I felt like the only girl at the dance without a date. But I found I was not unique. A lot of people came to AA and had to create a God of their understanding. So I took pieces of what I heard and started talking to God in my car, attempting to make conscious contact. It felt foolish at first, then a relief to get some of this stuff off my chest. Then it was surprising when some of my prayers seemed to be answered, until eventually I came to depend and rely on this God of my understanding. Reading the stories in the AA book Came to Believe helped me a lot.
