Temperature Check

I had worked really hard in psychotherapy to get in touch with my repressed anger. Once I began expressing it I felt powerful and unburdened. Anger became my protector, and I was proud that I could curse and shout and flip people off at will. I had the kind of radical therapist in the ’70s who encouraged us to drink and smoke dope so that we would “loosen up” and get in touch with our feelings. We passed joints and booze around in our group therapy sessions, and we would all cut loose—no holds barred. His method worked. Boy did I get in touch with my anger!
