Dollar Store Presents

One December not so long ago, I was living in a halfway house for women. I hadn't seen my kids in a long time. Alcoholism had left me penniless, jobless and hopeless. This house made us go to AA meetings. I remember crying as I shared in one of the meetings, saying that I had no chance to see my kids and no money to buy them presents. After the meeting ended, an old-timer named Jim handed me $40 and said, "Go buy your kids some toys for Christmas."
