A drive for liquor made him do something he thought he’d never do

I was always a pretty quiet kid. I grew up in the country near the little town of Jewett City, Conn. My mother had a long history of drinking, so when I was born she checked herself into a long-term treatment facility. Because of her alcoholism, my grandparents raised me until I was about 9 years old.
