My drinking started at age 17 at a Candy Cane Ball in December 1973. Before that I had had a fear that if I drank I would become an alcoholic like my father. I really didn't comprehend the word alcoholic. I just remembered the sadness and pain his drinking had brought our family before he entered AA in 1969.
