Lessons from a Bald Eagle

In the rescue of the injured bird, he could see some parallels to his sober journey

On a snowy day, late in December, I saw a large bird walking through the pine trees in the yard of my rural Wisconsin home. An AA friend arrived and breathlessly identified it as a bald eagle with an injured wing. After watching the eagle struggle in the deep snow, desperately attempting to fly, we called another AA member who knew a certified raptor rehabilitator. Five minutes later, Patrick, the raptor expert, was on his way to help us catch the injured bird.
