In a Southern Town

Alcohol had flashy allure to him when he was young and growing up in a religious home

I grew up Southern Baptist in a small town in South Carolina. My parents, non-drinkers, didn't openly condemn drinking alcohol but we children knew tacitly it was discouraged. Despite being reared in a completely non-alcoholic environment, I was always, as far back as I can remember, drawn inexorably to drinking.
