Cruising Through the Jitters

When I was eight years sober, one of my daughters was planning a big formal wedding, which would require my husband and me to accompany my mother-in-law to the east coast following the ceremony. The idea of both attending the wedding and traveling with my mother-in-law were daunting propositions at that point in my sobriety, so I discussed it with my sponsor, Helen. She said: “I know it’s going to be difficult for you, Carolyn, but why not plan something nice for yourself afterward? My husband and I have enjoyed cruising at sea in our recovery. There are nice cruises originating on the east coast. Why not give it a try?”
