Down by the river
The biggest lesson he learned on that boat was not the one he expected.
After I got out of lock-up shortly after racking up my third DWI, I went to my first AA meeting in the detox unit of the local hospital. I didn’t want to be there, but my attorney told me, “The best defense is a good offense.” He wanted to be able to tell the judge I was going to meetings and had a group and a sponsor.
