I grew up in a very loving, but restrictive, household. My parents were charter members of an extremely conservative church. In my childhood there were no movies, no dancing; not even public swimming was allowed, I guess for fear it would lead to impure thoughts. Of course, alcohol was forbidden in any quantity or form. The church served unfermented grape juice for communion.
