Just when a sober trucker decides to switch gears, his HP sends him on a most unexpected route

I was 23 years old and desperate to stop drinking when I came into AA in March of 1984. I consider myself one of the lucky ones, because at my very first meeting I felt like I had come home for the first time in my life. Here was a group of people, some of whom I had drunk with, who felt like I felt, thought like I thought, and made the same “brilliant” alcoholic decisions I made. Prior to that meeting, I believed I was the only one who knew what it was like to live in my head. Suddenly, I was no longer alone.
