Cocktails and a Side of Stress

Rattled by an office drinking event, she discovered the power of reaching out

At seven years of sobriety, staying sober one day at a time is not as difficult as it was the first year or two. Still, certain situations present themselves that make me feel uncomfortable or under-confident about being able to resist temptation. Last night, for example, I attended a work-related event. I’ve been to these in the past and there’s always been a lot of alcohol involved. So I did some planning and made sure that I stopped and got a bite to eat beforehand. I also arrived late, knowing from experience that it’s in the first 30 minutes or so of those functions when people are generally really knocking back the cocktails.
