A old-timer recovering from surgery learns it might just be his time to get paid back

I get to go home tomorrow. I’m in the hospital recovering from a heart attack and subsequent quadruple bypass surgery. While lying flat on my back for a week, it seems I finally found enough time to listen to those Grapevine audio stories that have been collecting on my phone. They have indeed sustained me, keeping me “in the rooms,” while I couldn’t get to meetings. So, this makes today the eighth day of “life number three.” My second life began in 1983, when I was Twelfth-Stepped and brought to my first meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous. My sobriety has remained uninterrupted since that year.
