Home Is Where I Am

A death in the family took me home to the familiar southern city of my youth. I had sobered up in one of the city’s many meetings 23 years earlier. After I’d been sober three years, life took me to another city, and then another and another. I didn’t get the chance to return often, but when I did, I made sure to visit the 5:30 p.m. meeting hosted by my first home group. If it weren’t for the AA members in that group, I don’t think I’d ever have gotten sober.
