I was more than three years sober and starting to experience the joy of living in ways I never had before. I was grateful for this new life afforded me by sobriety but I hated my job. I was waiting tables in one of New York City’s busiest restaurants and I knew something had to change. But what I didn’t realize at the time was that being in that job served a purpose; it pushed me to seek employment that was more fulfilling. My sponsor suggested trying “something fun.” Work could be fun? I hadn’t heard that one.
