Late Night Shopping Spree

He just wanted a few things to go with his booze—and hey, why pay? Oh, he paid alright

In retrospect, the thing that hurt me the most during my drinking days was losing the power of choice. I wasn’t choosing my thoughts and behaviors. Once I took that first drink, all bets were off and there was no telling what would happen. It was as if I were compelled to think and behave in many harmful and destructive ways—like driving while drunk. Who in their right mind would ever choose to drive when they could barely walk?
