I’ve been reading my first Big Book; it’s a present from a member who talked me through so many sleepless nights during my first few months of sobriety. I had a sponsor, but she went to sleep at a reasonable hour because she was a mom and had a job. He would stay on the phone with me until the wee hours of the morning and chat, chat, chat me into my pillow. The Big Book he gave me as a gift for my 90 days has an inscription that simply says, “Thank you. Pete the Plumber.” I couldn’t understand why he was thanking me when I was so needy.
