13th-Stepping And The Damage Done

When does a warm greeting go too far? One AA woman writes of how meetings need to be a safe haven, but can’t be when members engage in practices that many consider predatory.

Our group grew quickly over the past two years, more than doubling in size. With this growth came lots of new ideas, personalities and growth opportunities that we were not able to resolve. What had worked in a small group no longer met the needs of a large group to carry AA’s message of recovery. We decided to hold a group inventory, and asked a past area delegate to facilitate it and an officer from our local intergroup to take our notes. Many issues were discussed, and additional information, options and resources were provided by the facilitator and note taker. Our group was left with lots to consider for future action, including some major issues.
