A happy mending

A disastrous start to an overseas trip was saved by some cheerful, service-loving Brits

Soon after I got sober, my husband and I started traveling internationally as well as “locally” in Mexico, Canada and the U.S. I was quick to realize that I am still an alcoholic, no matter what country I’m in. I’m out of my comfort zone the minute I leave New Mexico. My life quickly becomes more unpredictable and powerlessness sets in. Ever since I got sober in 1981, I’ve taken very seriously the suggestion about attending daily AA meetings. When I’m traveling, I need meetings more than when I’m at home where, I fancy, I’m in control.
