At every bar in town they thought he was a decorated hero. But once he got sober, the truth caught up

I was afflicted with polio a few years before the vaccine was developed. I could tell you that’s why I drank. But that was not the case. Despite the illness, I was active and enjoyed sports. I had a normal social life. I felt self-conscious though, about my left leg being considerably thinner and less muscular than my right.
