It could have been me

A horrible tragedy on the day she got sober reminds a mother when she too was drunk at the wheel

Yesterday, I was thinking about the woman in New York who drove her minivan down the wrong side of the Taconic State Parkway a few years ago, causing an accident that killed eight people. Most of them were children. I was thinking about how this tragedy would have been incomprehensible to me a few years ago. I would have been unable to grasp how someone with a blood alcohol content of nearly 0.2 could get behind the wheel of a car without malicious intent or extreme stupidity. Now, I get it.
