When I came into AA in 1988, I got a home group. And although I had a sponsor who helped me stay sober, he really didn’t teach me about being an active member. When I had two years sober, I moved to a new town and got a new sponsor. This man suggested I join his home group so he could teach me not only how to work the Steps, but also about our Traditions and the importance of doing service work. He took me to business meetings, district meetings and area assemblies, and he taught me all he knew. It was the best thing that could have happened for me at that time in my sobriety.
